NAIC Hosts 3rd Annual Insurance
Summit in Kansas City

Innovation and regulation key focus of this year's event.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (June 22, 2018) —The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) wrapped up its third annual NAIC Insurance Summit in Kansas City.

More than 1,300 insurance regulators and industry professionals were in town for the conference, focused on the latest innovative ideas shaping the insurance industry.

The Insurance Summit kicked off with a video welcome from Kansas City Mayor Sly James, followed by the first session, "Ethics in 2018: Considerations for Regulators and Industry." Keynote speakers during the week included Matteo Carbone, IoT Insurance Observatory Founder and Director, Fortalice Solutions CEO, Theresa Payton and Knowingly CEO Byron Reese. NAIC President and Tennessee Commissioner of Commerce and Insurance Julie Mix McPeak hosted a one-on-one with Dr. Bharat Sutariya, Cerner VP and Chief Medical Officer, Population Health.

"This conference is truly unique, bringing together regulators, industry professionals and consumer representatives in one place to discuss regulatory issues affecting the insurance industry," Commissioner McPeak said. "Innovation and technology are changing the way we do business and the summit is an excellent forum for sharing experiences on guiding progress while ensuring consumers are protected."

"We are grateful to all who joined us for this important and valuable event," said Andrew Beal, NAIC COO/CLO. "In its three years, the summit has developed into an excellent opportunity for professional development and for meeting people and ideas from a great variety of disciplines."

The summit, held at the Sheraton Kansas City at Crown Center, has a communications component in which public information officers and other media relations specialists learned about crisis communication, the art of using photography/video in storytelling and the impact of social media.

Many summit attendees earned credits for continuing or professional education programs, such as the NAIC's Insurance Regulator Professional Designation Program.
